City of Belfast issued the following announcement on March 11.
Nordic Aquafarms to Host Public Information Meeting on March 26 in Advance of Upcoming Permit Application Filings
Nordic Aquafarms will hold a Public Information Meeting on March 26, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. at the Hutchinson Center, 80 Belmont Ave in Belfast. The meeting will give the company an opportunity to present key information from its Site Location of Development Act (SLODA) and Natural Resources Protection Act (NRPA) permit applications, as well as its previously submitted discharge application, and to take public comment.
Nordic Aquafarms plans to submit the SLODA and NRPA applications to the Maine DEP in April. The company submitted its discharge, or MEPDES, application with the DEP last October. All of the applications will now be considered by the Maine Board of Environmental Protection in the coming months.
Pursuant to Maine DEP rules, formal notice of the meeting has been published in the Bangor Daily News and is being sent to project abutters by certified mail. The notice states that the purpose of the meeting is for Nordic Aquafarms to “inform the public regarding its proposed land-based aquaculture project and its anticipated environmental impacts, along with information about opportunities for public comment on the project.”
